Hello all
I got baby chicks yesterday they are 5 days old. I’m using a brooder heater not a heat lamp. Have a question about night time since there is no heat lamp light should they have a certain amount of light? Should I put a some sought of light on during the night ? Thanks 😊

They don’t need a light at night. I have a chick heating pad in my brooder. They lay on it and sleep they hardly make a noise. With a light they seem (in my experience) to not sleep as much and are noisier (chirping ) through the night. As long as they are warm they will be fine.

No. The great thing about the heat plate is they will sleep during the night. If they are located in a generally chilly/cold area, then get them all tucked under the heat plate in dim light so the stay near the heat. Also, if they are in an area that needs light (a bedroom or basement) in order to see, make sure you turn it on for them earlier in the day so they can eat/drink when they wake up. Cute chicks!
