Baby chicks are living breathing animals...they are not disposable !! They are cute hatching out of the egg...they are not "toys ",They require heat for months, fresh food and water daily, they are tiny babies who need the care an infant does...,they will grow up and be dependent upon their human caregivers....if you are not able to care for a baby ,please, give them to someone who can!

Um, ok?
A chick need significantly less care than your average human child. I have cared for both, there is no comparison.
Heat for MONTHS? The chicks I had this spring were 100% off the light and going outside by 4 weeks! I also did not have a 'proper' brooder set up-- just put a heat lamp in my outdoor coop and called it good.
No, they aren't toys, and shouldn't be treated as such, but honestly, who is going to toss aside a hen just because it isn't cute? They lay eggs!
And chickens are a much less dependent pet than say, your average dog. Most chickens do very well free ranging, and if the apocalypse happened and all humans were wiped from the earth. . . Chickens as a species are likely to survive.

If there is a specific person this is about, then that is understandable, but without context, it's a weird thread. Never seen someone online or in person treat chickens like a toy.

I don’t think anyone on this forum thinks baby chicks are toys as most of us are here because we LIKE/LOVE raising chickens.

I am guessing this is a rant in relation to something else? Or just a rant in general?

Do I think some people often don’t consider the full implications of getting an animal? Sure, but that doesn’t just apply to chickens. I see numerous posts on Craigslist for rabbits every summer or fall. The cute little baby bunny a child had to have is no longer a cute or has become a responsibility. Now the parents want to sell them to recoup some of their costs.

A) heat for months..... no
B) same care as an infant.... hardly. I'm a mother to 2 human babies and countless animals, and a grandma... you cannot compare chick care to infant care.
C) you must've experienced or witnessed something horrible, in which case I would hope you reported it to the correct people and not just a rant on here, this is a place where folks gather to share information, photos, ideas, and help one another.

Yup, it's preaching to the choir here.

I know that unfortunately baby chicks (and ducks and bunnies, especially around Easter) get treated as disposable, but that's not something anyone on this forum would condone, I would hope.

Not sure I understand the need for this thread without any context .... but I must say some people think animals and people and rocks :) should all be treated the same .

We need to be able to differentiate between human and animals, or we’re all in trouble,
I wish the poster would explain to us the need to rant because we are all here to help

Guys, I think the OP is ranting about a bad experience.... I do agree with all of you though! Chick(en)s are NOT like humans and don’t require heat for MONTHS (maybe 3-4 WEEKS at most)... But that’s okay OP! :hugs I DO NOT personally think that baby chicks are toys!! :hugs
