We use a metal wash tub or a rubbermaid tub or sometimes it is better weather we use our outside wooden box.

I was told to put a few pebbles in the waterer so they don't drown. I was also told to keep a close eye on the temperature. I lowered it five degrees every week. I do believe the beginning temperature was 95 degrees. I put some of the starter crumbles on the floor of the brooder. Make sure to change the water often it gets funky quick. And make sure to take a lot of pictures they go from cute fuzzies to baby chickens in the blink of an eye.

I will take loads of pictures, trust me! I will do the pebble thing cause we have a rocky drive way. We also ordered a thermometer with my chicks. I'm so egg-cited!

Use the newspaper or pineshavings. A man advised me this and he knows his stuff. He replied me back this qoute below when I asked about my chicks playing/eating maybe the newspaper in their brooder. Like I said though, I bought a 50lb bag of chick feed, they'll never eat that much so I cover half of the floor of the brooder in it so that can scratch and their feet don't slip.

I wouldn't cull a chick who got spraddle leg, I had a silkie chick with it (when I first used newspaper- the shiny kind) then taped her legs with a big bandaid and she grew up healthy.
