Baby Chicks first time

Mother Hen covers her Chicks and call them in under her...She is the best incubator and Mother...Without a Hen they have no one to teach them..

I have 26 brooders. sometimes with 500 to 800 chicks in them with a small light 25-60 watt mostly on one end---the chicks will go to the heat when they need it. And I do not have to call them--LOL. They do good, rarely a poop tail and rarely do I loose one. These 250 watt bulbs have killed many with unexperienced users. I have never used a 250 watt heat bulb--its not needed----rarely do I use a 100 watt bulb----big brooder with a lot of chicks maybe. Chicks only need a small area to warm up in, BUT that area needs to be warm. But to each his own.

Still 250 till they can be lowered too a 175....I run heat for my Broody right now so my Chicks do not suffer during the time out from under her....Common sense and watch how your chicks are moving around during the day will be an indication on what temp they need...If happily peeping and running around? Your good....:).....If standing or huddled? Cold and temp need to be higher...

Easy with the right info....:)

Chicks do not stand and huddle unless they are cold----they want be cold if the temp is properly set under the light.
