For my kids as pet. 1 is enough, but if you have more, we may be able to take more.
We live in Fairfield country CT. So we prefer they are hardy enough to adapt to the cold New England weather in the winter - we may not bring them in during the winter every evening.

We can also pay for you to mail them over if there is an easy way to do it provided it does not cost outrageously.
 
We don't have any preference to the species, but one that is gentle and nice / docile might be preferred because ultimately it's a pet chicken.
 
Chickens don't need to come in in the winter. With a coop built to the size of your flock they will make their own heat. Only on days below 0 do we close up the vents. Also they are flock animals so 1 alone won't thrive well. I'm 3 hrs north of you so a bit far for you to drive
