I'm not sure how to get the pics to show up here, but here's a link to an album of them: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/sredir?uname=rsiebenmann&target=ALBUM&id=5455557246378646577&authkey=Gv1sRgCJXFnrT92a3V8wE&feat=email

They
just arrived today and are a variety of 10 "heavy pullets" from cackle hatchery. Anybody have any ideas as to breeds? There's no feathered feet or extra toes on anybody

Three of them are dark-colored and the others are all blond or slightly reddish.

If you go to cackle hatchery's website and click on the 'heavy pullets' icon it will tell you the breeds that they put in these orders. there are even pictures of the chicks so you can see what matches yours. I can tell you have some sex-link chicks but cackle has so many varieties of sex links its hard to say which ones you have. The ones that are black with the white dot are barred rocks. If they dont have a dot they are black australorps. Here are the breeds that Cackle puts in their heavy pullet order, I'll just copy and paste lol

Breeds to choose from: New Hampshire; Production Red; Rhode Island Red; Cherry Egger; Buff Orpington, Black Australorp; Barred Rock; White Rock; Cinnamon Queen; Red Sex Link; Black Sex Link; Red Star Sex Link; Golden Comet.

These breeds all lay brown eggs. Hope this helps!

Hey, I'm from your neck of the woods! Anyway, based on some chicks I hatched out, #s 1, 4, and 7 look like Rhode Island Reds, the best I can tell. Number 2 looks like an Ameracauna? (sp?). I'm not completely sure, so let's wait to see what someone else says. As far as the dark ones go, I have no idea. I just bought 2 pullet chicks yesterday from Tractor Supply that look almost identical to those dark ones of yours except that mine do not have a white "spot" on the back of their heads. Is the lighter color on those dark chicks yellow or white? On mine the other color is yellow. If someone can help me out on figuring what mine are, I'd appreciate it, too. Mine look like a pic. I saw of a black copper maran chick, but mine do not have any feathering on the legs. Good luck!

1, 4, 7: Red Sex Link PUllets

3: some kind of sex link, cherry egger, or production red, cinnamon queen, or new hampshire red... maybe even RIR

5, 6, 8: barred rock

2: looks like a brown leghorn to me, but that isn't on the list.. and they are certainly not a "heavy" breed...

Yeah, the picture of # 3 is not the best, but further down on the Cackle hatchery list are 3 white egg layers that could also be possibilities, including Brown Leghorn, White Leghorn, and something like "california white". So you could very well be right

I'd actually be happy about that.... we've never had a white egg layer yet! Two of the lighter chicks have dark brown stripes on their backs like that.

the heavy pullet order at cackle hatchery only includes brown egg layers....just go to the hatchery website and compare your chicks to the breeds they have. the sex links are going to be hard to tell but you will really know once they start to feather out. Good luck with your new babies, they are adorable! Madornato : your chick is probably a Black Australorp. they don't have a white dot on their heads and are black with yellow underneath instead of white like the BR.

the black ones are Barred Rocks or Black Sex Links, the reds are Cinnamon Queens/Red Sex Links/Red Star Sex Links/Golden Comets (they are all the same), Production Reds, or Cherry Eggers.

1,4,7 are red sex links
5,6,8 are Barred rocks
2 if legs are green is an Easter egger. Need better pics (front and side view) so many breeds have chipmunk patterns.
3 hard to see, but I would say New Hampshire red, production red (possibly RIR)
