Baby Dove grevious injury (GRAPHIC PICTS)

I had a serama pullet that was scalped by an over hormonal cockerel. I thought she was a goner. But she pulled through. I just kept her separated, neosporin on it, and the skin grew back. She doesnt have many feathers on the new skin, but shes fine now.

i'm sure what you did already will be fine:thumbsup
"as long as ANY animal with an injury is kept out of any extended stressful situations, that animal is sure to heal more quickly and efficiently." - me, just now.
i hope it gets better soon!

Is the momma still feeding him? He should heal up just fine if you can keep him eating and drinking. If you can get parrot handfeeding formula and take a eye dropper with the black rubber end, pull that off and cut a small hole in the rounded end. Fill up a syringe with the feeding formula and stick the syringe point through the hole. Make sure the food is not too watery. Put beak in the eye dropper rubber top and slowly squirt some food. it might take a few tries. If you don't have any parrot formula, grind up some chicken starter and mix with warm water until it goes to a oatmeal consistancy and try that.

We had a minutes old chick that this happened to. His mom went crazy on him! He is still alive today and doing well. (we named him Skully). Anyway, we made sure to flush the wound really good every night. and put neosproin on it. Wrapping it was pretty much impossible so we kept him on paper towels so pine shavings would not get stuck in it. Skully slept a lot! more than a normal chick, guess that was so his body could focus on recovering!

Remain hopeful and Best of luck!

Silvadene cream is the miracle treatment in any situation like this. I was given several jars for burns I suffered quite a few years back, and one of my turtles who lost 2 limbs in a racoon attack was given a large supply at the emergency vet to come home with a couple years ago now. The antibiotic, protective and healing properties of that silver cream are just amazing. I hope you can get some somehow. All the best....

What type of surgery is the Vet wanting to perform? The injury appears swollen from all the trauma but it doesn't look infected. As longs as he is eating and drinking he should be fine. The first 24 hrs after shock/injury is always touchy. You have a very cute dove

pull the skin together, he's on sulfa suspension for the rest of the week to get any infection out- I'm keeping it clean, metacam is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory - it'll take down the swelling, the sulfa will take care of anything that might have creeped in.

he's perched by the food and water and he's had poops and a full crop.
