Hello everyone! so I just hatched this baby duck about five days ago and up until now she’s been doing just fine. Today I noticed she was breathing with her mouth open. I thought that she just ate too much food and that it would go away once she digested a little bit. Now she’s been breathing oddly on and off. She is still eating, drinking and pooping. She hasn’t seemed as active and her peep has gotten quieter. I’m gonna start giving her some vitamins. I’m worried I might just be overreacting because I had a duckling before who had some symptoms like this, but they were a bit worse. She was with me about a week before she passed. I was devastated and really do not want to lose this duckling! Couldn’t be respiratory issues? I heard breathing with their mouth open is a sign of that. If so, is there any way to help that? She’s with the baby goose who was acting just fine and if she has anything that’s contagious I don’t know what I do because they don’t like splitting up. Please help me! She’s the only one I got from these eggs and I really do not want to lose the duckling!

Any help and prayers would be very, very much appreciated!!! thanks!

There are many things that can cause respiratory distress...the easiest to rectify is from dusty bedding.
Does it sound like it’s a respiratory problem? I don’t think puppy pads are very dusty.
