We've had ducks now for almost a year. And one of our ducklings was hurt. Not sure how, after inspection looks like a possible bite. To big for a dog, possibly a cat.

I've cleaned the wounds up with warm water. It doesn't seem to be bleeding anymore. But I'm concerned about the eyes itself. Both are swollen, and one looks like the inside eyelid might be torn. Will it repair itself?

I have the duckling isolated, with food and water.

Looking for tips or advice.

Poor baby do you have Veterycin spray for wounds and infections and Terramycin eye ointment? Both are great for the eyes . The duckling should recover as long as infection Doesn’t set in.I would def keep inside because of flies laying eggs in wounds then maggots. If possible bring in another duckling to be with it they do much better if they have a buddy.

One of the eyes was crusted this morning, and none of the wounds look infected. I dont have any Veterycin on hand but I will be looking at picking some up. None of the punctures marks appear to be on the eyes itself, just around. Would bag balm work, or antibiotic ointment?

I would try the antibiotic ointment

More than likely having injury to surrounding tissue will cause the eye to get crusty. Nice warm salty water with a soft cloth can help open the eye. use a soft wash cloth to moisten the eye like a compress

Homemade Saline Solution Recipe Ingredients:
1 cup purified water or distilled water
1 tsp salt

Instructions:
1. Bring water to a boil. Boil for 10 minutes to get rid of any impurities.

2. Mix salt into the water and stir until dissolved.

3. Let the saline mixture cool.
