Baby Ducks Died

just saw this yesterday and the today I got busy and didnt let them out to swim like I have been. I gave them fresh water and then within an hour 2 died and a 3rd was on his way out. (2weeks+ old) poor little things, must have gotten too hot? I feel so bad. so far the 3rd is ok.

I have such bad luck with my ducks. Last year some kind of critter got 6.

I went today and got a fifty pound bag of game bird starter. Just had 7 turkeys hatch. So I'll just feed my ducks that too jus to be safe.

The only additive I've ever seen listed on chick starter in my area is amprolium. I've raised many ducklings on it with no issues and will continue to recommend it to people. I don't think his issue had anything to do with feed anyway....it sounds like they probably got too hot.

yea i read on the internet that if the feed contained this it is ok for ducks to eats. The is what is in Flock Raiser. I looked at my last bag of chick starter and it had some word that started with a S was the med.

I agree with Katy,
I have had many ducklings on a Game Bird feed that's active ingredient is Amprolium and never had a issues.

Amprolium is Corid

Don't feed game-bird starter! It has 28% protein: way to high for ducks. I'd stick with the flock-raiser or unmedicated (or medicated???) chick starter, I've done fine with those.

Senna,
You need to do some research on feed! You are misinforming people that "all" Game Bird feed is 28% protein and that is untrue.....
Not all Game bird feed is 28% protein.... I use a Game bird feed that is 22% protein put out by Kent Feeds.
Kent, Buckeye, Kalmbach, Evergreen, Manna Pro and Blue Seal I know off hand have a Game Bird Feed that is less than 28% protein.

Angel wing is a deformity in the wing that is caused by to much protein, it can be fixed I remember someone-Nettie?- makes angel wing wraps.

Just chiming in here with my experience from 2 hatches.
Our feed store doesn't carry any medicated food at all, it needs to be specially ordered. I start my ducklings on 20% chick starter, then move to 18% starter/grower. So far I've had no problem at all.
