That's the reason I stopped breeding, I ended up with 27 goats before we neutered the buck and decided just to keep pets. There seems to be less interest in keeping goats these days, probably because they aren't cheap pets, and with the past downturn in the economy people lost interest. Doesn't help you any, why do you want to breed them, just want more, I guess don't breed unless you are willing to keep them all. Sorry, I know the allure of the baby goats.

So this year, we are reluctant to breed the does. And when I say we I mean my family not me. The reason they are concerned is that the reason we were breeding them was for profit and we cant seem to sell them. Out of the four kids we had last year, only one was sold. We refuse to take them to the auction as we wont get enough and we have no idea where they would be going. Facebook and Craiglist don't seem to work either, any ideas? I really love having the kids around but I understand that we cannot keep them. Any help is appreciated.

Either what you are breeding is not popular in your area, or you are asking far too much. If you cannot sell them for a profit locally, then there is a glut of cheap goats that people are buying instead. Also, many people want registered animals. You can trace their lineage. They can go in milk test if they are a dairy breed. They always command a higher price than unregistered. Have you also tried listing at the local feed store? Make a printout with the bottom that has those little tabs cut so people can take a slip with your contact information. Provide an email and a phone number, since some people like to call or text, others email.

Mine are sold within a week of them hitting the ground, normally. I have folks who are interested in them before the kidding. Then if they truly want a kid, they'll send me a deposit.

thanks lll try to fix a printout thing up. Our boy hunter sold as soon as we posted at eight weeks. I believe he sold for 100. They sent a deposit and we made sure that they had other goats so he wouldn't be lonely.

That is reasonable, but still would be considered pricey around here, I paid 100 for my blue eyed doe, and 50 for a brown eyed buckling.

Unless those $350 blue eyed does have ADGA or AGS registrations along with parents with milking stars and/or champions in their lines, nobody in their right mind would pay that much.

The other prices are sound for unregistered animals.

Except for the fact that having cute little goats I your back yard is a "thing" now, and people are willing to pay ridiculous prices for cute little goats with blue eyes. Throw in moonspots and people practically throw their money at you.
I think the "right mind" part is right!
It's still ridiculous though. Not to mention you get folks breeding for EYE COLOR instead of sound conformation and milkability. (Not implying the above person does)
They've become a fad unfortunately.

Blue eyes are the icing on the cake. I have blue eyed goats, but ones that have milk behind it, not just pretty eyes. Eyes don't put milk in the bucket. Nigerian Dwarves (the only breed of goat allowed to have blue eyes when AGS or ADGA registered) are a dairy breed. Milking ability, not looks, are the priority.
