Baby goat with no appetite?

But someone who has spent their life working in veterinary medicine is the best source!
So do a lot of VETS, unless they treat FARM animals on a regular basis.
Most Vets that don't make FARM calls know very little about anything other than cats or dogs

I totally see this as my only option. Danged if I do and Danged if I dont. I want to give this guy the best chance he can get. I talked to an on-call vet yesterday, they said injectable was the best course. I confirmed that if given orally, that the worms would die to fast and cause a bleed out or shock to the goat. Since he is so young and in such a state, injections were best to make sure its a slow administration of the drug. Monday I will go down to the office when it opens and get the does he needs. Hopefully it will save his life.

I'll keep you updated.

I used to routinely worm my dairy goats with an injectable. I injected it. It worked fine. I always followed the directions for route of administration found on the label. The only exception was that I would give IM injections to goats subq. This was on the advice of the many savvy goat and livestock vets I worked with over the years.

I brought him home and gave him a bath. He is now eating like a champ. The mites I think are dead from the dusting I gave him yesterday. There are a LOT of them. They are tiny, with a brown head and yellow body. But the body is not long and thin. Its more round, shaped kind of like a guitar body. I gave him a bath with all around cat/dog flea shampoo. I read up on it first and found it was safe. He really perked up after a good cleaning and a long sit on the heating pad. He will probably be filthy in the morning back with Mom, but that is OK. I really wnated to see him eating before letting him go back to the barn.

Tomorrow I will pick up the wormer from the vet along with some B vitamin complex for their water too as a booster. And some broad spectrum antibiotics as well.

You have described lice. And a heavy infestation of lice can really drag an animal down because of the all blood they consume.

I checked him this morning and he is eating well. Im still going to get him some wormer though. He is looking perkier and brighter now that he has been bathed and de-pested lol.

I'll keep you posted.

Ok, I got injectable Ivomec in him, and I got some B complex that is injectable too. He was very unhappy about both those shots, but was munching happily on his food when i left. He needs injections of B vitamin for the next 4 days.

Yea, injectible ivermectin definitely stings. But it will definitely help, as will the vitamin B complex, big time! Vitamin B complex is one of those great things to have one hand.

I gave him his injection last night around 6pm, but today I ahve to go up there around 12. So Im hoping its OK to give him his shot at that time.
