Hi everyone,
I have a gosling that is about 9 days old. It was hatched by our adult geese (she hatched 4) and has been raised by her as well. So far it’s been doing great. It free ranges with the adults and its siblings, and they are all very healthy.
This morning however, one of the geese got separated from the rest of the group. I attempted to reunite it with everyone, but it just had problems keeping up. It wouldn’t walk with the adults and other babies, it would just lie down in their vicinity and try to catch up every time it got too far away. Then, this afternoon I noticed I didn’t see it anymore. I went around looking for it and it was on it’s back barely moving. I brought it inside and put it in the “hospital box” but it’s not doing so great. He’s not eating or drinking, and keeps flipping himself over. His poop was normal until just a bit ago when he had his first bit of diarrhea. The symptoms are as follows:
- not eating or drinking
-sticks tongue out and shakes head every time I try to make him drink
- flips himself over constantly
- very weak, can only hold up his head a few seconds at a time
- clean watery diarrhea with undigested food
- very faint whistling/cheeping
- he’s getting cold very easily

Any idea what this could be? I’m normally great at diagnosing things, and I’ve never lost a bird due to illness... but honestly I’m at a loss! I have no idea what’s wrong.
Currently giving electrolytes/ vitamins (containing niacin) and a very water mash of waterfowl starter.
I have no idea what else to do- any advice is appreciated. I’m hoping he makes it through the night! He was completely normal yesterday

Unfortunately I had a duckling that had the exact same thing going on, and he had passed by morning :hit hoping you figure out what's going on and how to treat it!!

The goose passed away this morning. I don’t know what happened. It was so sudden. From first symptoms to dead in less than 24 hours.
Keeping an eye on the rest of the babies, but so sad we lost this one :(

I can only present this as a suggestion (maybe send him for an autopsy to be sure?) but it sounds similar to when I lost a duckling who had gotten stuck in a fence and ruptured something inside. He also got very floppy and kept flipping himself over. Is there anything in your yard that the gosling might have gotten 'stuck' in?
