Baby mourning dove

I set him on my lap on a towel and cuddle a bit with my hand to be sure he is warm and alert. Here is a link to a photo...

Is that a dove? Its so big! My little chick isn't even half his size! :p I'll try that this next feeding.
He keeps moving down to the bottom of the cardboard beneath the hay. I don't want him to get to hot but the bottom doesn't feel too hot. If he was getting to hot would he move?
I won't be able to get on the internet again until tomorrow probably. I'll send an update in the morning of how he is. THanks for all the help! I hope he makes it :)

Nope its a pigeon about 12 days old, they feed in the same manner as mourning doves i believe.

Here is a link to mourning dove info - maybe the syringe is better for them. It says they will not eat if temp of formula is too cool.

Thanks! I'll look at that.
Last feeding before bed last night I stroked him a couple times to wake him up a bit. Then he was VERY active when I fed him and was squeaking all the time. He ate almost a full ml! Which is probably still under how much he should be eating but it is almost double of what he used to eat so I guess its good? I did the same just now when I was feeding him and so did he. He kind of jumps up and squeaks then sits back down to rest, then jumps up again etc... He also ate almost 1ml before he started to fall asleep again. Just now he noticeably ate more willingly.
My grandma had gone out in the middle of the night to check on him (we all love this little chick :)) and she said that his heating pad and lamp were turned off, so she turned them back on. I hope he wasn't to long without heat. Would that be an issue?
Also, is hay a good bedding? He seems to get tangled and poked and tries to get away from it sometimes. I know bird nests are made of hay, grass, string and things like that but would hay just thrown in a box be okay? I don't want him to get tangled up and its hard for him to walk on it. Although its hard for him to walk at all yet.

I am glad you found this tip useful, it mimics what I see parent pigeons do when they come to feed their young babies.

I dk but my first thought is a few layer of paper towels and a small piece of soft fabric to snuggle with. I don't think I would use hay for the reasons you mentioned. My baby pigeons nested on some wood shavings in a dog bowl and i just put newspaper or paper towels over the rest of the cage. I think he may be too young to really stand up and walk.:D

Is laying like this normal for his age?
