Baby roo problems...need help ASAP!

I know without a doubt hes a roo. Its not that i can't have them i just dont want to. I was just wanting to know what the easiest way to get rid of him is.

Contact a local poultry breeder via craigslist or another source and see if they will take it. I had the same problem but i had two. I contacted a woman on a farm about an hour away, took the two roos to her and then she let me have two hens to replace them. This was in New Jersey.

I would wait a little longer because we had a silkie roo who was great as a chick and about 10 weeks old we started to get mean we just delt with it for about a month picked him up with gloves Ect. and now he is the sweet roo we wanted it is like a rooster teenage stage

Good question! I had exactly the same problem (somehow the hatchery screwed up the gender of a Golden Comet

)

I posted on Craigslist for my little guy, and tried to make it humorous so people would know he's not supposed to be eaten or used for fighting. I got an answer within 45 minutes! Here's my post:

I am a hybrid 6 week old rooster looking for a bevy of fine young hens to romance and protect.

My interests include:

long walks in the yard
fine dining
keeping a good appearance (I am a city man after all)
dancing/strutting (very into the arts)
singing

Please give me a try ladies, I promise not to disappoint. My mother would love to keep me, but I find her house in the city to be too stifling for a manly shooting star such as myself. I may look a little ragged now, but I should finish coloring into a soft white body with a beautiful gold to champagne colored saddle and hackles.

Don’t I sound handsome?

I must warn you that this method is a little contraversal in the chicken world: Many people say inspire fear in roos and let them be, i say establish a relationship and maintain silent power from that.

When I got my first chicks, they were about 3 weeks old- I made an effort to pick them up everyday. At least 5 mins for each chick, yes, they run from you at first but treats slowly soften their heart. I had them in a giant produce box (the large type they have watermelons in at the grocery stores), ocassionally i would sit in it with them so that they could explore me on their level and would know i meant no harm. By the 7 week mark, they assocaited me with food and i was ok by them...they would wait on the edge of the box for me. They would gladly sit on my lap and not fight me in picking them up. At the 3 month mark, they did get a little more standoff-ish when being picked up...but nothing bad, still held them just the same.

-> If they ever peck you, flick them on the snout and say "no" loudly.
->Practice the football hold ..this humiliates them a little.

At 11 months now, my lead roo Gilda has only tried to the wing dance once and i chased him around the yard for it. He is a very good leader and a mellow boy who still sits in my lap (bc i think he knows he gets more treats that way. lol) and lets me pick him up.

BTW, I had 3 males out of those 5 RIR chicks and they ALL turned out mellow!!! so

to people who think that method is bad.

Well if you want to wait a few weeks, he could be dinner

. Otherwise I would post "free rooster" on crasigslist. If you want to kill him off I guess decapitation or breaking his neck would be quickest.

I raised a polish roo in my house for 8 weeks- he was held daily. He was so tame and sweet. At about 6 months he started flogging my granddaughter and niece. The minute he could see someone approaching he was at the gate. He free ranged. He caught my father off guard while he was opening the gate wth his hands full of eggs and was hit and killed.
I have a silikie roo that is 3 years old. Fluffy was raised in the house until about 8 weeks also. He will flog you if you turn your back on him. He will keep coming and coming at you even if you knock him back.
These were very loved, spoiled chickens with a lot of human contact. I have FBCM chicks and BLRW chicks that are 5 weeks old. One of my Maran roos is horrible. He pecks me and has even broken the skin once and NO it is not curious chick pecking. He is a mean little turd! I'm not babying him at all. I have started pecking him back. I keep telling him he will be the first chicken I have no problem killing and eating.
I am not going to baby any more roosters.

Unless it is not legal to keep him in your area, roosters are great to have in my opinion! Almost all the ones I've had have been friendly, they watch out for the girls, find bugs for them, and if you ever need new chicks just incubate a few of your own eggs. If you feed him by hand everyday, handle him, carry him around sit him in your lap for little while when you get the chance he should get very friendly. Some of mine even prefer human company to the other chickens ^_^ A couple of them went through a cocky "phase" but by the time they were 1 year old they were as sweet as ever. Give Roos a chance!
