Baby silkie has a protruding and swollen vent

Poor lil chick is having a hard time. She will be 2 weeks on Friday. She had pasty butt but that’s fine now and she is very swollen and seems like her vent is protruding. She also seems to be staring to go pop. I’ve been cleaning and using preparation H cream. Which seem too make her pick at it more she is constantly pecking herself back there and I’m not sure how to help her.

Mine is exactly the same. Giving small amount Doxycycline for birds and using sugar on butt. Vet suggested for puppies with prolapsed butt. Have tried everything else. Going to try yogurt and coconut oil next.

this thread is older, but figured i would respond for anyone who is reading this now.

this is prolapsed vent, you first start by separating the chicken. Then, insure the area around it is clean. Then soak the protruding mass in a warm water / warm water epsom salt (not hot) “bath” for the protruding mass, just for that area. Then apply gentle antiseptic. Wear a glove, and insure hands are clean after and during the process. Lubricate finger and gently press it in.

do not let this go on. Treat it as soon as its spotted.

unfortunately this is one of the first chicks I incubated so I am so overly concerned! I have done everything I can. But I wonder what caused it.
