Baby squirrels

I've done a good bit of wildlife rehab, squirrels are a blast!

I raised mine on kitten formula and fed them with a 1cc syringe. They're sooo cute when they grip the syringe with their little fuzzy hands.
With very young babies, you have to stimulate them to eliminate after they're fed. Rub their bottoms with a soft, damp cloth and they will urinate and defecate. This is very important, they'll die without this.
Keep 'em warm, feed every few hours at first, and enjoy their adorable little antics.

3cc's of replacer every 6-8 hours if their eyes are closed best I remember. Hot water bottles need to be changed at every feeding. Put them in a sock so the babies can snuggle up to it and stay warm. I'd not give them a lot of room starting out. In a few weeks after their eyes open you can begin to give them Cheerios to gnaw on.

I am a rehabber down here in Louisiana. The best thing you can do is follow that link above that was already left for a rehabber in the Ohio area. I used to live in Medina Co, but it has been too many years since I moved away, so I am not up to date on the current local rehabilitators.

Until then you are able to reach one, here is link with some helpful info.

Good luck!!

They are a lot of fun to raise. Adorable when they hold on to their syringe, "Bottle"...lol. I still have tons of babies that I have raised and released all over my property that to this day, still come down the trees to see me, or run around showing off.

The only thing I do differently is I use the Espilac puppy formula.

Forgot to mention, NEVER feed a cold baby. If they're chilled, get them warm before you give them a snack

Blue, that sounds so cool to have a yard full of friendlies! I wish I could have done that. Since I did rehab as a college student who moves a lot, I released most of my little buddies at the Oak Mountain State Park wildlife rescue place. I figured semi-tame critters would do better there than in some random college neighborhood

Being a chicken nut I just happen to have a heat lamp that I put them under. Then I found a homemade solution to give them to rehydrate. I gave them that til this morning and then gave them the puppy replacer. Two ate about 1cc, one ate 3/4 and the fourth ate only 1/2cc. DH is going to feed them again before he leaves for work and then they will have a long period before feeding again.

They are pretty cute and sure do like to squeak...but taking care of them plus the house hen plus the 10 chicks is alot BEFORE your cup of coffee.

Good luck with the baby squirrels! I had one some kids brought me once (the mother had been run over), it was pretty interesting to bottlefeed.
