Baby trying to make it

Still doing great! No signs of any lingering issues. Walking talking eating pooping … not much more we can ask for from a 5 day old baby chick.

I believe we're out of the woods! Lazarus has continued to thrive and is growing like a weed and is very feisty, now at a week and 2 days old.

They're all doing really well! One of the BCMs is significantly smaller than her sisters, including Lazarus - I've named her Jenny (because I thought … shrimpboat, then Forrest Gump then Jenny) but she's got plenty of pep. Lazarus and her other (as yet unnamed) sister are just about the same size and gaining weight like normal little chicks. All of the Buffs are growing fast too, and the Cream Legbar babies are humming along, so all in all quite successful.

I'll get some pictures soon. I've got one hen I'm hoping will take them (original hen walked off right before they arrived)- just trying to give her enough broody days. They've been using the MHP the whole time. I've had good luck transitioning chicks from the MHP to a hen, so fingers crossed.

Hope it goes well! I gave my silkie two eggs that were peeping and she got sooooo excited!(the neighbors hen took the other chicks and left two unhatched) They were cold but hatched that day.Fluffy Butt was so proud of herself!Hope your hen has the same reaction.

Awesome! I love it when things work out. This will be the maiden voyage for this particular hen, always an anxious time, even with many successful experiences. I much prefer having the hens raising their babies with the flock to hand raising them, but those first weeks of sweet peeps are so much fun! It is November, so I'm lucky to have a second contender - after all, the whole reason I ordered chicks was for the other hen. Lucky for Lazarus though!

At last, pictures. The 2nd hen didn't work out as momma, so the chicks are now living in the front of the coop area meant for just such a task, weaning from their MHP which is now too small to the Sweeter Heater.

Lazarus is the chick at the top peeking under the MHP. The cream legbar chicks decided the food dish is their dust bath- they haven't caught onto the area meant for that but … well, it's so cute!
