Bachelor flock

This is the first year where I have my boys in a run. They used to just free range, but I have new neighbors that like to drive 9,000,000,000 MPH up and down our shared driveway. We've had the talk and the next one will be given by the police. Grrrrrr. People are the worst. End Rant.

I'd argue it's impossible not to love a chicken. They are not given enough credit. Anyone that's ever met a chicken can appreciate how being called a chicken isn't an actual insult.

As long as there are no females within sight or rearing to stir the pecking order plot, most cockerels will run together in peace for much longer than they will if left to their own devices. It certainly helps if you can add one big, sharp spur, rough and tumble 3 year old cock to this flock just to keep the teenagers knocked back into line when needed. Possible problems are if the 3 year old gets sick, injured, or for some reason becomes unrecognizable to the youngsters. In this case you could wind up with a biting, flogging, pecking, spuring, fighting battle royal on your hands.
