Hello.Hi, chicken lovers!
Let's see: Who am I? I'm a 68 yr old woman living with my old Chinese Crested Puffer dog, Opi, and my two grey & white tabby cats, Sereena & Arla. Usually, I have two dogs, but my Chihuahua-X sadly died of cancer a couple of years back. I'll probably get another Chihuahua when I can. I tested Opi out on a friend's Chihuahua pup & he reacted quite well, so it should be OK considering his age. I'm a bit hesitant due to the fact that he's getting blinder by the minute. Anything larger & he becomes an old grump!A-a-anyways, we all live in the Western suburbs of Adelaide on a corner block, so we can't have many chickens but have had chickens before, so I know all the Councils' rules & regulations. Had to sell my chickens a few years ago due to having to go into hospital for an op. I miss them terribly. I'm ready to have them again and, this time, I won't let them go so easily! I'll find some solution if it ever happens again! ATM, I'm fixing up the run, the coops & repainting them. In a couple of weeks, I'll order the first batch of Polish chicken eggs. Then, about 6 wks later, I'll order some Silkie eggs & 2x Dark Barred Plymouth Rock female chicks. The timing is to ensure that I've sold most or all of the roosters and any excess hens by then. That'll be the hard part. Choosing! Also, having one neighbour as a 'Karen' doesn't help. Last time I had chickens, the Council (she sent) were very impressed with my setup so she couldn't do much but I just can't keep a rooster. Living in the suburbs, I can't keep a rooster though some people do if the neighbours don't complain. Also, I can only keep 6 hens which is frustrating. It used to be more! Sigh! But 6 is better than zero!
I'm feeling excited about getting chickens again. Watching them hatch, grow & their personalities develop. They'll be allowed to roam the backyard &, at times, the front yard with me nearby. That'll keep the weeds down & the landlord happy.
I have a wonderful 30yr old daughter, Riahna, who lives only 15 mins away and a 40yr old son who lives 30 mins away. Both are very successful in their chosen fields of work (says she proudly). Other hobbies? Art & music and anything that requires DIY.![]()
