I raised 50 Cornish Rock several years ago when my father in law was still with us. Just threw them in with the RRR and they took off. After processing them I didn't fool with them any more. Don't know why. Too busy working I guess. Fast forward to the last 8 weeks and the stores around here not having any chicken, or at the least very sporadic, I decided to build a chicken tractor and start again. I was impressed at how they turned out. At 8 weeks and 1 day, I finished with 28 out of 30 birds and a total of 173 lbs of dressed meat in the freezer. I couldn't help but notice the hatcheries are slammed and their production is being bought out quickly. I guess a lot of people are where I am at. Grow your own. Anyway, I have a lot more time since I retired so I will be ordering more birds in the next couple days and possibly dressing about half for game hen size. I hope to get them early next year for a meat run. Raising these birds in the summer heat here in Virginia was brutal on me and the birds. Looking forward to checking out the post from time to time to see what's happening. I will tune in again when we get the layers going. Thanks for allowing me to join the group.
