Back Button Not Working

Believe me you are not the only one, The back button has not worked since the new platform, get tired of hitting refresh all the time and so slow. Just been dealing with it. It is the only site on the web that does this, other forums do not have this problem, I keep coming back here because I like to read this forum but leave it a lot because it takes too long to read what I want and get back to other topics.
I have not tried firefox or chrome. and i have close out of everything. this is the only website i have this issue with. very odd i am the only one with this problem still, and exeryone elses has cleared up...

Marthab1953, earlier you mentioned you are on Windows 7, which is your operating system. What we really need from each member having this problem is the following:

  1. Your browser and version
  2. Do you have ads turned on or off
  3. Provide examples of pages you were on when you couldn't click back and which page did you come from

Our engineers haven't been able to duplicate or find the problem, but will keep at it. The more info we have the better chances we will have to fix it.

Thanks!

IE 8- 8.0.6001.18702. Win XP Professional 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600. Ads are on, I don't have a gold feather membership.

I don't mean to sound cranky, so don't take this the wrong way, BUT... ;)

I know that my computer is a dinosaur, I'm using a crappy browser, etc. But this is the only wesbite that I visit that the back button gives me issues. And I surf the web a lot. Too much, actually. ;) I hope the issue is resolved quickly.

Great info, please keep posting details so our engineers can locate and fix the problem. So far we haven't been able to duplicate it, but we'll keep trying.

When posting info, please make sure you provide as much detail as possible including examples of pages you were on when you couldn't click back and which page did you come from. URLs of the page you came from (couldn't go back to) and the URL of the page you are stuck on would be best.

Ok, so... If I go directly to the forum page, (not logged in) I get the problem right away. I cleared browing history/cookies/etc. Then I typed backyardchickens.com into the address bar. Recent history shows. I clicked the coop section tab. Recent history still shows. I clicked learning center tab... then I get the googleads thingy in th recent history area. it erases all other recet history and that's all that shows.

I will try it again to see if other sections are affected, and edit this post.

I cleared my browsing history again, and reloaded IE. The product reviews tab is fine, but breeds tab gives me the googleads in my history. If I only visit one other page, I can go to my recent history dropdown and select the page I want. Say... going from the breeds page to the coop page. But if I from HOME to COOPS it's fine, and I don't have to use the dropdown thing. (I mean recent history dropdown next to the back button, not the address bar dropdown.)

Um... is there a way to test it if I am able to turn ads off? I don't know how to do that as you listed above. Don't I have to be a gold feather member to do that? I'm not fishing for a free GFM don't worry. ;)

No worries, we appreciate the help in narrowing down the problem.

I've given you a 2 day GFM and set your profile to "turn off ads" so you can test this. Please do the following:

  1. See if the problem continues
  2. Turn ads back on and see if the problem comes back

We have almost certainly narrowed the problem down to IE 8, and we strongly suggest our members upgrade to the current versions of their browser (and suggest they use Firefox or Chrome).

I've been CURED! It's a MIRACLE!

;)

It was quite amazing when I unchecked the ads box and clicked "save" . As my page refreshed, I watched my recent history and my jaw dropped as this list of googleads addresses scrolled in like a list.- It might have something to do with the "featured sponsors" box. ??

As far as updating- I can't DL IE 9 unless I upgrade to windows 7. Which is a big PITA on this comp, I have to do a complete save and switchover and reload the new OS. I could try to see if there's firefox or chrome for WIN XP, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I hope this helps!

Yes, google chrome is available for win XP and it took very little time to download. BYC is now amazingly fast, and the back button works. I do hope you get the IE8 issue figured out, and I hope my lack of computer knowledge ( and abundant typos and word omissions) wasn't too much of a pain to decipher. Good luck.
