Backyard Brahmas!!

Here are some of my golds, and my gold partridge rooster.

My chicks came from a neighbor who has blue partridge birds . I am excited to see what lovely roosters and hens I get from my wee ones.
He looks like he spent ages combing his feathers right for his pic. Rather dashing, isn´t he?
Yes, it is the noise. Try reaching under her to take an egg and see if she pecks at you. If she does, she's definitely "in the mood". If not, it doesn't mean that she's not in the mood, she may just be a nice girl. I've never had one that was nice, but many of my friends have.

So, good luck. I hope you marked the eggs in case everyone decides it is their favorite place to lay.

Funny, isn´t it? all of mine are nice (let me look at their eggs no problem). I´ve had a couple of indians, they weren´t nice.

Hi, I'm Bev, live in Oklahoma and am a first time chicken owner. The four breeds I selected, well five really, were Red sex-links and Black Sex-Links from a local feed store - total of 16 of them. Then I ordered 25 from Murray McMurray and got 9 Light Brahmas, 11 Buff Rocks, one being a roo, 3 Partridge Rock hens and 1 PR roo, but wound up with an extra PR roo and my exotic chick turned out to be a Cuckoo Marans which I just love!

Not sure what color my Brahmas are other than white with some black. They look like eagles in the face and I think they are so pretty!! Mine did come from a hatchery and until joining BYC had NO idea that hatchery birds were looked down upon by some, but I love them regardless of their conformation.

Some of my babies (these were all hatched on April 18, so just now 2 months old):

^^She is SOOO big and I swear looks like a mini eagle! She and that roo are best of buddies. 2nd Photo: Is the rest of the gang (PR pullet - Buff Rock pullets and roo in the middle)

This is my Cuckoo Marans

Yardbird Mom,hello and Welcome! Nice flock you have there. I wish you luck with your chicks! And please post more pics. :)Your brahmas are Light Brahmas, I have a few. I know only a few color names but there are people on the thread more knowledgeable than I.

Thanks Cabinchicky ... I didn't realize "Light" was part of their name, as in their color too! Pictures? Did you say that? Lord, Okay, but remember you asked for it :D

The black and white one is called Nip Nip, not sure if it is a she or a he - It has a very long tail and is very aggressive toward my cat - chases her when she turns her back :) but is non-confrontational with the other pullets, but also doesn't seem to have more of a comb then the others. I figure I'll know when/if it crows!! lol The next pics are of the Brahmas, Buffs and a buried PR in there, plus my Marans! Then the older girls ducking under my shed ... They stick close to my barn and don't really go all that far. The last pic is of the sex links. I love the black girls, which actually have a greenish hue to them, sooo pretty!!

I never thought I would LOVE chickens, but I DO! :D

Yardbird mom, most of my pics on my phone are chickens. You fit in here fine, yes we are all addicted to fowl. I have light brahmas, Cochin's, gold lace Wyandot, speckled Sussex, Easter eggers in standard and banty. And yes I want more.

Oooh Cabinchicky, they are all soooo pretty!!! I love Festers speckling :) I wish I had gotten a Light Brahma roo now too, maybe next year. I went overboard on buying chicks and have 42 total. I'm pretty sure I am going to have to sell or re-home some so they stay happy with the space I have.

Explain to me which breeds are part of the "Easter Eggers"? I know the Cuckoo Marans bred to a blue/green layer makes an Oliver ... yay, finally figuring some of this stuff out!!! lol
I'm up way past my bedtime, so I shall check for your answer then. Good night! Thanks for the welcome :)
