Backyard Brahmas!!

My first cockbird was a SLW named Steve. He ensured I would always keep a cock, because he showed me they're not all bad. He protected his girls fiercely from dogs and curious drakes.. But was never overly protective from people. He never did flog me but I had a respect for him. He would come running all puffed up when he saw someone going toward the coop while they were freeranging, but as soon as he saw it was me he would defer. LOL.

Well, my first hatchlings from my "partridge" flock are maturing, and I'm realizing I've been duped. :( It's ok because I think my babies are gorgeous, but I had no idea what I was looking a I guess and got taken for a fool. And this lady was selling chicks/eggs from these breeders for a LOT of money, too.. But just not seeing much right with the offspring.

I ended up with two for sure cockerels, three for sure pullets, and one questionable which I still assume to be pullet.

Here is what the "gold" pullet is looking like. I don't believe her pattern is correct at all, although she's way closer than the "blue" ones. Pretty little thing, though ;)

I have two pullets (which I'm calling the blue ones) that look like this. Again, I think they're super-cool looking but I hoped for SOME correctness:

And then I have two cockerels that look like this. LOVE their middle toe feathering, but no coloring like a partridge cock I've seen. :(

And then here's the confused one.. Bigger comb than the girls, but nowhere near the wattles of the boys.. And colored like neither. :lau

So... What the heck?? :/

1st Pullet, correct coloring and pattern, 2nd & 3rd not, 1st cockerel not, 2nd cockerel probably correct but I need to see more of him to be sure. Oh, and he is a he, not a she unless it isn't partridge (gold) brahma. I love the 2nd and 3rd pullet's pattern though....just not sure what I'd call them.

If the second and third pullets were laced, they'd have black on the outer ring of the feathers, which they don't. If they were partridge, they'd be penciled, which they aren't. Sort of looks like hybrid between lacing and partridge. It is a cool pattern though.

Also, they look pretty young so the pattern/color can change as they get older and molt out their baby feathers. Usually mine are done at around 9 - 11 months and what color they are is what they'll be, but it has been later than that as well.

My cockbirds earn their keep when they give me little fluffy-legged chicks, and also they´re brilliant at sounding the alarm for hawks. Always on the watch....

Your partridge pullet is lovely, and the blue boys are interesting, too. Look forward to seeing pics of them when they´re older. The partridge cockerel´s comb looks a bit odd in the pic, though. Where people mess about with the colours to get what they´re after, we can get some strange old colours come out in the chicks from the bought eggs. They probably did come from partridge parents of a sort, though.

Gold pullet.
She´s lovely too.
I have two very dark brown little chicks that I hope will feather up to be more partridge-like than others I have that are supposed to be partridge.

If they are, then I have their future hubby all lined up and waiting.......
