Some of the colors where male and female have completely different patterning are more obvious sooner, like with the Darks and the Partridge colors.

To sex lights, I found that males tend to have lots of dark further down the back and darker-dark, if you know what I mean, rather than just a nice collar. I had one sexing mistake from Ideal years ago and that was definitely the case with him.

As mentioned earlier, it'll be more accurate in a few weeks. But, I'm guessing that third picture is of a cockrel. See how there are three vertical rows of bumps on the comb? Typically the sign of a boy. But time will tell! I'll be curious to see new pics in a few weeks

I will post pics in few weeks it's the first time I have had brahmas these are lemon plye so new to learn how to sex them been told different ways but not sure yet

Ok....got a question on my brahmas, I have 19 girls and 2 roo's, 16wks, when should I be making plans to move the boys to a bachelor pad. I want to breed but not right off the bat. My boys, El Capo and Foghorn are well behaved and are both lap birds.

You may be ok with everyone living together so long as you have enough space. However it is my experience that a coop without males.is much more peaceful.

Personally I make my arrangements and then when they start harassing the girls it is easy to move them. My brahmas seem to start that behavior around 18wks if memory serves.

My 9 Brahmas are a week old today. They moved out to the small coop. Messy bunch, this one, worse than the Barred Rocks that are 3 weeks old, good grief!

Aww they are so cute!! We just got 2 light brahmas and 2 buff brahmas. I can't wait to watch them grow!

Thanks! You'll love yours. I started with Lights and a Buff (Caroline, the Buff, is going on 10 years old now) but never had any Darks or the Partridge(Gold) variety until now. I hope they are as wonderful as my Caroline and Miranda. I did have a Lt Brahma cockerel, sexing mistake at Ideal, but sold him at 15 weeks old, not having planned for a Brahma male. He was so sweet, I wish I'd kept him, but we make decisions based on current plans and he wasn't in the plan at the time.

I totally get that. We had a silver laced wyandotte rooster that I adored. I found him a home though cause we weren't ready for a roo yet. He came from the pullet box..
