Backyard Chickens: A Neighborhood Conversation

WoW! IT actually was a very informative piece. I wouldnt want to come up int front of you in a debate lol. I love the fact that you were willing to answer his posts with educated answers not just opinions. I think you did a wonderful and professional job!

i like that blog and the replies in it!
It looks like CA has been able to change plenty of its counties laws how i wish we could do the same here in Orlando, FL and most of FL
Right now i am going to see if i can use this blog as a resource for these "authorities" to open their eyes up on other places having their laws changed!

thanks for the great information!

His comment

". However, domestic birds that are raised by humans have a much greater possibility of infecting humans because of the close contact. When they are raised on an industrial or even small farm scale safety precautions are taken, and they are regulated by government agencies"

Made me laugh.
Look at what is happening with Peanut Butter of all things!! A "food product" that not only adults but MILLIONS of kids eat! Well, excpet mine. She decided she isnt a fan of the PB.

I sure as heck dont trust the government to protect me and mine from food sickies.

I live in California. I never heard of any such crazy idea of banning backyard flocks. More and more communities have been passing laws or codes to allow for it, not make it illegal.

Many local papers and news stories up and down California over the last few months have mentioned the increase in interest in keeping small backyard flocks, not banning them. This is mainly due to the passage of a law in Nov., Prop. 2, that will ban battery cages used in the commercial poultry industry in Calif. by 2011. Many folks are expecting the price of eggs to go even higher or we will have to get our cheaper eggs imported from out of state.

Swampwater has a pretty good list of our communities codes in regards to poultry keeping. Thanks for posting it.

Great defence of the backyard chickens! That guy doesn't know what he's talking about. He's a fear mongerer. You sound well educated and informed. Thanks for sharing!

Swampwater has a pretty good list of our communities codes in regards to poultry keeping. Where did you find all that? My town is on that list, but it took a lot of hunting to find the info. a couple months back. www.thecitychicken.com didn't have my city's code listed when I last checked their website. Thanks for posting it.

Found it again. I'm getting old...

But, I recommend calling animal control (the usual holders of such codes) and asking first. You can see the confusion that can be caused when you look at Florida and see two conflicting results for Sanford. However, County law doesn't apply in cities when it comes to animals.

Thanks for sharing that.

Your statements were articulate and effective. You also let folks decide the arguments for themselves, which is always appreciated.

People like to make their own opinions on things like that, and you gave some great reasonings.

Bravo!

I've laughing about that all morning, so thats what its called!

"Politically, Boulder is more liberal than most of Colorado. Boulder County, which includes Boulder's more conservative suburbs, is 37% Democratic, 27% Republican, and 36% independent. [4] Although in Denver, Democratic views are prevalent in city politics, Boulder has the more widespread reputation as a pocket of liberal political views within its largely conservative state, garnering the oft-used nickname "The People's Republic of Boulder.""
