Long time reader here, finally joined. I'm addicted to learning more about chickens.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes and no. My grandfather has a turkey ranch so I've been around large amounts of poultry. And my dad had a couple chickens for awhile. I finally live somewhere that I can have up to 50! And roosters allowed!
So I got my first group in march of 2020, and second group in sept of 2020.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
3 laying hens, 3 that will be soon, and 1 accidental rooster.
I had more but I had an unfortunate incident with a racoon.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Rhode Island Reds, Dominiques, and Sapphire Gems
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Home grown eggs is the big one. I love figuring out how to make my eggs "free". Also love that I have a place for scraps and free compost!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to crochet, garden, and hike and camp with my dogs.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have 2 pitbulls. One doesn't care about the chickens, the other wants to make them his next meal. Its just us on our little "farm".
