Backyard Chickens, Cute Trendy spreaders of Salmonella

NPR is a propaganda tool of the federal government paid for by our tax money to spread the liberal, progressive view of the world. they don't want people raising their own food as they clearly want people buying food from the big corporations(monsanto,GMO). this should be defunded along with so many other federal programs that are clearly unconstitutional. i am eating eggs from my chickens for breakfast. what?

I agree. What a way for the global ruse of "community" and UN group-think to determine the direction of political and educational institutions. Just parrot the same BS through the media and eventually people will believe enough of it to empower the tiny masters of misinformation.

I didn't find the article to be that bad. It starts out a bit negative, but it does go on to say, "The USDA provides tips on how to keep domestic fowl from playing a role in a future global pandemic, with no less than backyard poultry expert Andy Schneider, aka The Chicken Whisperer, as their spokesperson," and, "Buying eggs from the supermarket is a relatively recent invention, as Orlean has pointed out. So maybe the return of backyard chickens is a return to normal. And that's normal, germs included." The author doesn't seem to be out to eliminate the keeping of chickens, just to share some common sense animal handling advice and admonish parents to be prepared/think carefully before giving chicks to children as gifts. I had chicks as a child and loved raising them, but not all parents take into account precautions that need to be taken when handling animals, and that doesn't just apply to chickens.
