Bad bad snake

That could be a problem for chicks. I have to fix the bottom of a door today before I move about 50 chicks (ranging from 4 to 17 days old)out to the the brooder house.
I'm not killing the snakes though, just making the house snake proof.

I worked in KC 3 different times. The last was as an engineer at Ford. I lived in Liberty.
I have a couple friends that live outside Kearney. Another friend who still works at the plant moved from Steelville to Smithville Lake.
It’s almost like we are neighbors. I’m sure there is a six degrees to Kevin Bacon joke there. Lol. Guess I need to look into a brooder house

Do you have pictures of your brooder house? Or a link to any brooder house? What’s the difference between brooder and brooder house?
It is just a building large enough to raise several batches of chicks simultaneously. My problem is I don't always sell or butcher enough or have enough other housing that they are often still in there when I need it for more chicks.
Mine is just an 8X12 gambrel roof shed from Lowe's with a concrete floor.
Ideally you have reliable electricity in the building. Running water nearby is great too.

Perhaps.
I think everyone makes way to much about the presence of snakes. I think it may be a biblical thing.
I just don't think snakebite is that big of an issue, especially in most of north America.
I've spent over 60 years trekking through fields, woods, swamps, creeks and rivers in much of North and Central America. I've encountered lots of snakes, both venomous and non-venomous. I can't recall ever coming close to being bitten. That said, I've only come on a Fer-de-Lance once. They're notorious for being common, aggressive, powerful venom and frequent agricultural area so are more likely to encounter people.

I'm not an anti snake person. I don't say let's hunt them all down and kill them. They do their part of nature and do help us control other vermin. That said, you would certainly never see me keep one for a pet.
My run is enclosed by half-inch hardware cloth. The Gap around the door, I think, is close enough that any snake big enough to eat an egg could not get through. So I don't worry about snakes in the chicken run or coop.
My dog, on the other hand, is definitely not a fan of snakes. So far this year, she has killed three black snakes that I know of. Each has been over five and a half feet long. On the three occasions I have observed her confronting a snake, I'll let nature take its course. Just as nature tell snakes to go after an easy meal, nature tells my dog to go after snakes. It's brutal to watch, but afterwards my dog is just so pleased with herself, you can see her Beam with pride. Now she has never been trained to be violent with anything. In fact, I got her with the hopes that she would be more threatening to any two-legged varmints that might come around. Failure. I call her my watchdog. Because if somebody broke into my house, she would watch them take all my belongings. But I have seen her deal with snakes and feral cats. And even if I wanted to intervene, there is not time. She sees, and it's over. Except for my chickens. I did train her to not attack the chickens. That was a long, arduous, and a couple times even a little brutal training. But other than my chickens, let nature do what nature does.

The only good snake is a dead snake. I know some folks believe black snakes (racerbacks) eat poisonous snake but this is a myth...kinda like snakes drinking from udders. I often patrol my yard armed with a .38 loaded with shot shells, but that's just me.
If the black snake is a King snake, they do eat other snakes, nice, rodents of all kinds and are about the only reptilian enemy of poisonous snakes. Move the snake to a new location

The Blue Indigo Snake is one that will eat any kind of snake. They are being raised in south Florida at one of the fish hatcheries. They are trying to bring them back as they were almost extinct.
