Bad bad snake

Oh my, be safe! I have relatives in Tampa and Jacksonville, so following closely! Not too worried about Tampa, but J'ville getting lots of prayers!

I would relocate it for sure. If you have a woods near you just put it there, it will be fine.

It will come right back. Snakes have this natural radar for chickens. The only way to stop it is to kill it. I have heard they will eat mice and rats and that is why folks are OK with them around there barn where the feed draws rodents.

My poor husband has removed more garden snakes than I can count. We can't seem to kill them (nature's creatures) so we relocate them to other parts of the 5 acres. Some get thrown over the fence quite a ways away! haha. I have checked the eggs in the mornings and there is a large garden snake just sitting there waiting for the poor hen to produce him his breakfast - bad snake! My mouthy hen (thinks she is the rooster) lets me know when the brown snakes are there. The other hens are as far away from their coop in the pen as they can get. But, the black snake is a resident and has killed a lot of other bad rodents and doesn't seem to bother the eggs. It is not all a pretty sight but nature has it's way, doesn't it?

So my Ernie Bird stayed in the bunny hutch/coop one night. I put her food and water in there. There are two nesting boxes. I let her out yesterday morning. She refused the coop last night, but must of know the boxes were there. The coop door stayed open, just in case she decided to go there to sleep. My husband said this morning, there's an egg in the coop box. Wooooh wooo! Smart little chickie girl. We'll see if this continues☺☺.

Relocate the snake. They do eat the vermin. I think there is also a snake repellent but I'm not to sure about it.

That would be the last egg that snake ever ate if it was in my coop.

Then you would have more rodents...

Not much that I have seen in the way of rodents here. Have cats and a dog. Our first cat actually taught the dog to hunt vermin, it was amazing to watch.
