It just feel off the whole upper outer shell of her beak, I got her put up away from all the other chickens, she loves boiled eggs especially the yellow part so I mushed it up and watered it down for her. She's just standing there in her crate she acts scared to move poor thing! OK thank you for that good info. So she won't die from this and is this common for a beak shell to get ripped off??? I got some type of good healing chicken spray . I'll go look at the name and tell you. I do have hydrogen peroxide as well! Yes the OK symbol makes sense!!!o okay this is what I would do if she were mine. It looks like the beak tip is just sitting there not attached. I would (if you don’t have a second pair of hands) put her securely under my left arm (I’m right handed). I would take a spray bottle with some type of antibacterial I use betadine or if you have hydrogen peroxide DILUTED (50-50) with water. Take you hand and hold the head covering the eye. Think of making a OK sign with your fingers. Make Sense? Spray gently until it’s clean. That tip looks like it’s going to fall Right Off. Get it clean
It can heal... it’s like having Your fingernails ripped off.
She’ll need soupy food. Soak her feed in electrolyte water(baby isle of the grocery store). All foods for a while will need to be like this so she can lap it up. I would not put any ointment on it. You want it dry so it hardens and begins to heal. What type of people foods do you give her?
thank you so much! I was wondering about the low dose asprins! Yeah I can tell she's in extreme pain. It breaks my heart! Thank you everyone for your information and concern!!!!Sorry about your hen’s beak. That is pretty severe, but she can still survive. We have seen a couple of hens with their entire beaks removed in dog or raccoon attacks. I will look for those 2 threads. The first thing to do is make her food soft and thin like oatmeal with a lot of water. Add some egg occasionally or even tuna or liver chopped finely to make it appetizing. Pain is a problem, so an 81 mg low dose aspirin twice a day can help, in food or water, but don’t use it until bleeding has stopped. We all hope that she gets better. Tube feeding is something you may want to learn if she seems unable to eat normally. Of course separate her in a dog crate where she can see people or the other chickens. Good luck.
