Bad broken beak on my hen!!!! HELP!!

If you have Vetericyn Wound Spray or betadine that you can dilute with water, that would be good to use to clean the wound and beak. Peroxide is not recommended, but using it just one time will not harm her. Plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic ointment is good for the wound. Keep flies away from her.

She should survive if she gets enough to eat and drink. Many tube feed at least temporarily if they cannot get food.
OK so I do have veteran, that does need to be watered down then? She is wanting to eat but it's so painful, I'm going to try and get some of this low dose asprias in her. I hope I don't have to syring feed her that will be a challenge for sure. How long do you think she will need to be away from her flock?? They are so close all of them

Accidents do happen. Beaks get injured. I certainly hope she makes a full recovery IT WILL take time and your loving TLC. You’ll need to keep her in her little hospital area until she’s eating her regular feed. Until then you need to do your best to get water and food in her. She might be in shock along with the pain right now. Keep her in a safe place crate or (I don’t know your setup) a pen within the pen (wire off a section) there’s many soft foods my chickens like yogurt (they love vanilla) canned tuna (cat food) cottage cheese, scrambled eggs. Just think of the consistency for her...like runny mash potatoes for example. You can do this with her regular feed too. I like to use electrolyte water when I’m making the “mush” it just adds a lot more than plain water. Once she’s eating you can breath a sigh of relief but keep a eye out for infection. Good luck to you and your little girl. Already saying prayers for you two. Keep us posted!

hydrogen peroxide should be used if there is big stuff in the wound, i think you shouldn't use that unless there is a bunch of stuff in the beak wound. Though watered down might be good, i would water it down a bit more than fifty fifty though.

If it is bleeding a lot, you can puff on a bit of cornstarch, i have heard that that helps...
keeping her separate from the rest of the flock is a great idea, if other chickens peck her beak that would be bad.

i hope she gets better!

OK here are some pics, as you can see the way she's standing she's in a lot of pain. I seen it's the outer shell of her top beak. The actual whole beak looks intact....Thanks for replying! I'm really upset BC all the vets are closed and I'm no chicken expert and I just feel useless
This lady knows so much stuff, I often used her website for advice. Here's an article on beaks: https://the-chicken-chick.com/repairing-chickens-broken-beak/

You're absolutely right, she does seem like she's in shock over it, poor thing I'll monitor her eating and drinking. Hopefully the aspirin helps with the pain. She's in a large dog crate inside the barn with pine shavings and I rigged her up a little roost for sleeping. I'm sure she's missing her buddies. We have flooding here so she can't really be put near them with the way things are set up. I think she gotten spooked in got her beak in the hard wire cloth fencing. Thank you for the prayers!!!
