Bad eggs?

Half way usually means they’re a little old but not bad. I write the dates on my eggs on the day I collect them and I try to collect them daily especially during the summer.
Since i only get from four to five eggs a day i don't use the date. I just number the cartons so i know which are the oldest.
However that is a bit confusing with some of y'alls answers about my floaters. The eggs all came out of the same carton so at most the floaters were one or two days older than some of the carton. And the whole carton was about seven to ten days old. So i am still not sure if they are old or bad?

@calboy147 I explained it here...maybe you missed it?
Another nugget of misinformation, skewed and spread widely.

Floating an egg will only tell you how old it might be.
They float due to evaporation when older.
It will NOT tell you if an egg is 'good' or 'bad'.
Plus then you've wetted the egg so it should be thoroughly washed and refrigerated.

When in doubt....
Open eggs one at a time in a separate dish before adding to pan or recipe,
use your eyes, nose, and common sense to decide if egg is OK to eat.

Crack it open in a small individual bowl. You’ll know if it’s bad by the smell. Before you even crack an egg open if it smells it’s bad! There will be no questions about it. I usually don’t eat eggs if when I crack them they are liquid-y like if the yolk and white come out like water. I rarely come across that problem now that I collect them daily and write dates. But back when I was horrible at collecting eggs daily and didn’t write dates or track em any which way, I had a good handful do that.

I suggest crack open the half-floaters and see. For sure if they float to the top they are old old and most likely will not be good for consumption. But crack it open and see for knowledge and share it with us!

The next floaters or half floaters i will crack open smell and photograph. And probably taste test. But i am still confused. !0 days can't be too old for an egg that went from still warm on a nest to a refrigerator. Right? I understand store bought eggs can be 30 days old by the time i buy them.
I just don't want to give my friends, family members or wife's coworkers bad eggs.

To be safe and not gross out someone. I would say if you don't know how old an egg is, or how long it's been in the fridge, don't sell or give away, keep for yourself and don't boil it. Poach, fry, or scramble. GC
I must have lost all my communication skills. I knew how old the eggs were. 5 were maybe 8 days, 5 were maybe 9 days, and two could have been 7 or 10 days. So if the floaters were just old; daaang! But if they were just bad eggs; then i will stop giving them away because i am not going to float test and or candle all my eggs. I will just continue blindly eating them myself...lol

Most of the eggs I eat have been in the fridge 2 or 3 weeks, some have a large air cell and do stand on end when I hard boil.
I wash all my eggs so the bloom is removed.
That allows evaporation to happen. The eggs are still fresh and safe to eat.
I thoroughly let the eggs dry before putting them in the carton to prevent mold.

The eggs sold in the USA supermarkets are washed in chlorinated water, dried and coated in mineral oil to reduce evaporation. GC

I don't think you lost your communication skills, I think people are getting hung up on the float aspect.

I have never floated an egg. I have no need to float them because I don't need to know how much air is in them. I've eaten plenty of eggs that were 2, 3 months old (no I don't date them, but I'm very diligent about putting them in order from old to new). I've not gotten sick.

If you know your eggs are 10 days old, they're fine to eat unless you stored them improperly. No reason to float or candle or worry about why they're half floating, etc.

If you have eggs that seem off or bad upon opening, either storage was the issue (i.e. they're on counter on a super hot summer day) or there's an issue with the chicken that laid it.

I collect eggs twice a day. And they go immediately in the extra fridge. Unless they are dirty then i wash them and take the washed eggs to the kitchen fridge for immediate use.
Up until the past few days when they have been hiding them, i got 5 or 6 a day.
Since i have 12 dozen in the fridge i figure the oldest eggs are 28 days. A couple of my children and friends from work usually take about six or eight dozen a month or so. How long would be safe to leave them in the fridge before i should be concerned about giving them away?
The ones i stumble upon outside the nest boxes i don't bother with i toss to the goats and pigs.
