BAD news, need advice ;( LIFE AT STAKE!!

Please don't hate your dog. Dogs do what dogs do, and sometimes bad things happen. You tried your best to keep your chicks safe, and you saved one of them. Move forward and learn from this, but don't hang on to it.

More than likely the one that survived was just in shock/or stunned. It wears off eventually, just keep an eye on it.

UPDATE:
Chick is back to normal!

At what age will mama hen start to make her more independent?
I'm guessing this chick, who I changed her name AGAIN, this time it's Miracle. Miracle is not so round anymore--starting to take the body of a chicken than a golf ball, but still small. Maybe a week old?

I noticed Mama hen isn't feeding her now. She used to show her where the food was on the ground and let Miracle pull it from her beak. Now she expects Miracle to find food herself, so Miracle (who is hungry) has been peeping loudly all day and Mama hen ignores her. (Mama hen usually let's Miracle get the food from her beak)

Is she trying to make her more independent already? What else should I be expecting?

Oh! Forgot to mention: Miracle is starting to get grey feathers on the tips of each wing.

You can dissolve an aspirin in a gallon of water and give her some with a dropper. That will help her if she has any pain or soreness. It will help her from getting stressed over the pain.

Just wanted to clarify that if you give this chick med's or water with a dropper, be very careful as you can drown the chick. Some say to just moisten the beak.

Wasn't sure if you have given them anything with a dropper, so just wanted to make sure.

Hope your little one is doing better and pulls through. I had one that the cat got and then the dog attacked it, and it survived.

I brought in a bucket of Earth and put it in their cage, like bedding. Mama hen got excited and pulled out so many Earth worms! Miracle ate 2 big ones and half of another that I could see. So many things in that dirt that I couldn't see lol they had a feast! I might bring more in today.

But anyone know when Mama Hen will start weaning Miracle off her?
How old is Miracle if she has new grey feathers on her wings?
I'm going to let them outside soon, with the dog on the other side of the fence, but just in case, how old will Miracle be when she is able to defend herself better and not get mouthed by a dog?

These are bantams.

I don't know about mom's weaning babies, haven't done that yet.

But I can tell you that my full grown chickens (standard sized) couldn't defend themselves against a dog.

I wouldn't leave your dog anywhere it could get to the chickens. Be careful your little one can't fit through the fence where the dog will be.

I keep my three dogs and chickens seperate at all times.
