Well Im so mad.I hatched 6 OEGB"S Xmas. They were all hand tamed and basicaly lived in the basement for almost 3 month's.My grandson who lives with us full time is 20 month's old now.I started introducing him to the birds when the bird's were about a month old.We picked one for him for a pet of his own becuase He seemed so tame and didn't mind the baby petting him etc.Damien is weary of thing's yet and We have taught him easy and pet and rub just like with the dog's and cat.Buddy was doing great in the coop until a couple week's ago.He has flogged me a couple time's on the leg and think He got Damien once on leg when he went to area to feed.Today My daughter was up and fixing some fence in the coop and my oldest grandson and damien was in with us and Damien fell.Buddy went for his face and scratched his head. He is such a nice looking roo and generaly just want's tail rub's and to be held. I guess I am going to have to pen him because I can't let him going around chasing baby when he was supposed to be his pet.I think Damien now is going to be afraid of all of the bird's due to him.My silkie's are big babie's but he doesn't seem to like going to see them as much as the bantam pen and he does go see the duckling's everyday but still doesnt want to even hold or pet them either.Maybe should I just think about re-homing Buddy?

Get Buddy a new home. Going after kids is just not OK. Even if he doesn't really hurt your grandson, you wouldn't want him to grow up afraid of chickens, would you? Far better in the long run to only keep around roos that are well behaved.

Before I discovered this site, I did a bunch of research with my neighbors. Nearly every one of them on our County Road raises chickens, and the consensus was that once you discover a rooster, quit handling him. The folks who made a point of handling their roosters always seemed to have problems with them. Might be that they just lost their fear of people from too much handling.

One more case of a rooster that gets handled and gets real tame and has no respect/regard for humans. Make the rooster move away from you, never the other way around. Never get out of his way make him get out of your way. You dont have to hit, kick, etc etc. Most roosters will learn to stay away from you. The ones that don't go to the big rooster place in the sky.

There is nothing less true than to beleive that if an animal "likes" you they will not hurt you, just does not work that way

I agree if a rooster runs across the yard to get to a kid or me for that matter. But if the rooster and the kid have been hanging out it is just rooster behavior. Leave the darn birds alone.

Sounds like time for soup. There are too many good human obeying roosters in the world to tolerate one who attacks. As soon as they hit puberty, hormones start to control and they really are stallions in a small body, so best not to have them around small kids as they can be seen as "competitors".

These are absolutely correct. The roosters with the best manners are the ones that never lost that healthy respect. Ones that were coddled and loved on as chicks lose that fear/respect, so as soon as their hormones hit, they turn nasty. Old English Games are especially hard to regain respect - I'd probably reccommend that the OP rehomes the mean roosters or makes soup.

If you need a chicken cuddle - always love on the hens - they just get sweeter.

a freind of mine was just going thru the same thing last week, her dad was suposed to come and process him this week end but insted she built him a seperate batchler pad, he redemed himself on friday . she has quite a bit of property and has the back half fenced and the front half unfenced, the chickens are all on the fenced side of her property. friday morning she walked down her long drive way to get the mail when a dog atacked her she was lucky that she was able to pull her jaket off and use it to hold back the dog , she was screaming for help, when she fell, she saw a big black ball rush at her and thought it was another dog . the dog let out a horible yelping noise and let go of her jacket. when she got up to run for the house she saw it was her "devil roo" atacking the dog . she was lucky she only had a minnor bite and a few scratches . she has no idea were the dog camefrom , she didnt recognize it as anyof her neighbors dog. but her mean roo has earned himself a few more days
