I think that size is a big part or respect on a Rooster's part. This is a natural part of their behavior, BUT what are you risking? A child's face?
I am a rancher, I have worked with animals all my life. Most males are neutered, because of this behavior. Some days they are fine, but they can go from fine to aggressive in a heartbeat. As an adult you have the strength to kick or push back an attacking rooster, a child does not.
Get rid of him, I would not risk it.
