Bad Rooster

I never run away from a chicken. I've raised Emu's which can be intimidating, lol!
I hatched and raised about 44. Later turned them out into pasture, they loved the room to run and run they did! And boy could the eat! I purchased special feed just for Emu's, they would go through a truck load in a week. No profit there. I did get $25 each, whoopee! Now, it's just chickens. I do NOT want to tangle with a Goose. I had one attack me while out in a pasture, it would try to fly up at my face. I backed and kicked at fast and as hard as I could, it just kept coming. I finally made it out the gate. I guess I had invaded it's territory. Needless to say it was not mine but my bother-in-laws. He thought it was funny. NOT funny. A little kid would not have a chance against it.

I'm not trying to be unpleasant. I do however want to make a point.
That little fluffed up terror in the picture I can pick up in one hand and not even notice the weight. She's not taking any nonsense from this rooster despite him being twice her size.

The banty hen (Bitsy) in my pic is very, very small. She'll take on the largest of my layers without hesitation. I heard some loud squawking just outside my kitchen window, I looked out to see Bitsy holding onto the tail of a large hen that was squawking and trying to get free. Not sure what prompted the attack but Bitsy IS the boss.

We had a beautiful rooster that we raised from a chick. He was fighting with one of the hens, I put my foot between them. He then turned on me, I had to keep kicking him back, he torn my pants leg and broke the skin in a couple of places. I stopped him by grabbing him by the tail. I put him in a pen we use for winter for our hens. I put him back with the hens that night. When I let them out the next morning he came at me again. We gave him away to the neighbor who had only two hens. He came back home and after me again. This time we took him to the feed store. Haven't seen him since. We decided to get another rooster, he's a real sweetheart! A little short guy but he does sound the alarm when danger appears.
He has already bruised and cut my legs before. I usually run toward him but I was caught off guard and let my incorrect instinct to move back. But while I waited 1/2 hour for my daughter to help me up, the others sweet chickens stayed by my side

Why are you running away from a rooster? He's what one twentieth of your body weight and a quarter of your height?

Caught off guard while feeding everyone. He also went after my daughter and husband after he went after me. Doesn’t matter size, he’s being a jerk and we can’t enjoy the hens when he’s causing trouble.

Now that's what I call loyalty to the max! Happy your hens protected you! Yes, he must go.

I had a Rhode Island Red rooster attack me while filling their feeder. He just missed my eye and blooded my cheek. He went REAL fast. Good stewer!

I recomend you get rid of all the roosters you have mentioned except the barred rock that runs from you. Do not attempt to befriend him and retain that healthy respect he has for you now.
I am only sorry you tollerated this roosters nastyness until it resulted in an injury.
Roosters only protect hens by being the lookout and sounding a warning.
Roosters that take on a fox or coyote are usually a dead rooster.

I think it depends on the season and hormones. Spring seems to be the loudest time as well. I have two boys. I just rearranged things and put the one boy with 12 girls. They are following him everywhere . I carry protection in case always. The rooster I put in there today got a bath and blow dry today. He behaved so well.

I also put those caps you get for cats nails on his Spurs, so far they are holding well. I think if you fear them that gives them the upper hand.

Freezer camp for the bad rooster. Especially since you have cockerels to choose from; Once the bad rooster is gone, you can better assess which of your cockerels you like most, and which your girls favor.

A mean rooster will not change. I had a very mean rooster named Cody. He would give me the "look" and then attack. I had to have a stick or boots on so I could keep him at bay or kick him back. One day I had the dog by my side when Cody attacked. That was the last move he ever made. Moki didn't like him trying to hurt me and grabbed him. He ran away into the hills with Cody and I never saw him again. (Cody, I still have Moki) I wasn't sad either. GET RID OF THE ROOSTER! If he is young enough you can eat him!

This is Cody's "look".

I now have a beautiful and extremely gentle rooster named Harvey. He is a Jersey Giant, 18 inches tall and wouldn't hurt a fly!
