Bad smell and flys

Thanks for the dose of common sense. It's a shame, but I'll clean out the nest and wait for next year...maybe we'll have some kids then.

Don't feel bad. It happens. One thing I learned this year....I didn't follow the advice I read in Holderread's book to treat for lice and mites BEFORE ducks start to set. The flock didn't seem to have a problem. Well, I have 7 hens setting on beautiful nests. But after a while, eggs started to break and get stinky, the nests got jumbled up and finally the hens abandonded them. They had LICE! OR MITES! They looked terrible! I figured the hens were so wiggly from the pests that they broke eggs and weren't able to keep a nice nest. I got 1 duckling hatched from 7 hens. He is a miracle! Anyway, I've treated the flock and will treat again next weekend. But boy was this a hard lesson learned. Next year - Seven dust bath just before laying season!

I went out to feed the Ma and Pa ducks and one of the eggs exploded. Now, I thought I've smelled bad eggs before but this was something new! I've never smelled anything like it, it was all over me. Had to jump in the shower IMMEDIATELY, do laundry and spray the house. I can't go outside (the nest is right outside the gate of my courtyard), but I just heard another one explode. I looked out the window and saw scrambled eggs everywhere. WOW! is that bad...

Thanks, everyone, for your help
