Bad week for my BO

To top it all off, a few days ago I was taking my dog and the geese to the lake across the road for a swim...and some jerk decided to speed up so he could run over one of my geese! The only female! So now I’m tending her shattered leg and hoping she’ll make it.
I’m a terrible bird parent!

:eek:WHAT!!?? Were you right there with her?? Did they stop??

And don't beat yourselves up, it happens to the best of us! When it rains it pours....and the only way to go is up now! Hoping you all have a much better week moving forward!:fl

@DiYMama540

I stopped for some wild turkeys in the road last week and the idiot behind me passed me, going pretty fast. Plowed through the flock but luckily they all scattered. I was astonished.

I live in Vermont and we get tourists who are in a big hurry, probably from a big city, who drive like lunatics. This one had NY plates on the car.

I’m so sorry for your goose!

I totally get it! I have definitely had a bad bird month!
Started with my poor pet turkey getting flystrike because he was moulting and the chickens picked on him, he was in such bad shape I had to send him to turkey heaven.
Then I didn’t close the door properly on the pheasant pen and a bunch of them escaped.

No. That was a terrible person who sped up to run her over. :hugs

SAME!!! I’ve had a terrible few weeks and totally feeling like a bad chicken momma. I’m pretty new at this also and am making mistakes but I’m learning as I go. I have everything going on from mites/lice, bumblefoot, tapeworms and I just had to take a hen to the vet to get put down because one of her legs was paralyzed and she ended up getting flystrike. It was so sad. Just know that your not alone and I hope everyone’s week, month and year gets better.

So, after painstakingly weaving paracord over the fenced-in, wooded area where I let the girls explore, a hawk still managed to cause chaos and flush the hens out. I saved my BO from a wrestling match with a young coopers hawk. She popped up and, upon inspection, had ZERO injuries. But she took a few days off from egg laying.

During this time, I noticed she was favoring one foot when jumping down from the ladder (her favorite daytime perch). Fearing she had a hawk-related injury, I examined her again. And the poor girl had bumble foot on both feet! Now I have spent two days giving her pedicures in Epsom water, loosening plugs, coating with ointment and wrapping in bandages.

Just feeling like a bad chicken mama after a difficult week. Don't get me wrong, my chickens are loved and well tended. But I'm still pretty new and am making every rookie mistake in the book. Good thing those birds are resilient.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest...
Well, sounds like you are taking care of them to me. We can’t always be perfect mamas all the time!

Oh yah I was only ten feet away, the geese were walking behind me. I’m usually careful not to cross if I hear a car coming, I can hear them from a long way away; the truck was going fast as it is, and I heard him hit the gas when he saw the geese, I couldn’t do anything and the driver never even saw me.

But I remember the truck....

None of us should ever feel alone in our struggles, we've got a great, supportive community here! Cheers to the good times, they are right around the corner!!:hugs
Yes that is true! Its also hard when you rescue them and they have a bunch of problems. It’s seems like the last few weeks it’s been one thing after another. Things can only go up from here.

Sounds like you're lucky you didn't get hit yourself!! Keep me updated on the goose! Does she have her own thread with the story on it?
