Hello, this morning I went out to feed my animals and noticed my jumbo pekin duck was on its back and severely injured. It has huge gaping hole in its left breast all the way to the wing (about 6 inches long and almost as wide, so way too big to stitch and there are no vets near me that will see her). I brought her inside, flushed the wound and sprayed with vetericyn, covered the wound with triple antibiotic and gauze pads. The duck cannot hold its head up for more then a few seconds. I am giving it water and electrolytes though a syringe. Is there anything else I can do? what should i be trying to feed it? Maybe something though a syringe for the time being? It is not eating and has little energy. Mostly seems to be resting.

Can you post pics of the wound? You've already done everything for it that I would have suggested, so good job. Was it bleeding at all? It's probably in shock, which would explain the not eating. You could give sugar water or electrolytes mixed with water. @Isaac 0

I would try creating a mash. Some warm water, duck pellets in a blender and meal worms. Maybe try to just put a small amount in her bill and see if she will swallow. Rest and keeping her warm are going to be the biggest things this first 24 hours.

Could you get pics now that its washed off? I can't see the extent of the wound very well with the blood.
These are the best i can seem to get.The dark areas, I believe are clotted blood. The duck was upside down in shaving so having a difficult time to get the shaving that are dried in there
