Hey yall, I have been raking up pine straw for months and putting in my enclosed 600sqft run for my 27 chickens. I was just given 6 yard bags of raked dry leaves and was wondering if it would be ok for them to be in the run or will they mold and cause an issue? I've noticed the pine straw does not hold much water and they break it down pretty quick. Our winters are usually pretty wet, but we haven't had much rain in the last 2 months here.

I put leaves in my chickens’ run they love to scratch through it. I just put some in a corner. The leaves will break down in time and become rich soil.

My guys get all the mulched leaves I can make, though we have a large 16x32 foot run for our bantams. They are making me a lovely compost for their veggie garden next year. I did start with straw when there weren’t any leaves, crazy how fine they pulverize those materials down to.
