baits to use to trap coons

If its legal where you are at, and you are using kill traps, marshmellows are the best as they don't attract cats and other animals you may not want. If you are using a live trap, then as mentioned sardines or catfood are great baits. You are very likely to be emptying it of the neighbors cats or any feral cats in your area. Which may not be such a bad thing.

Cats aren't too bright, and you may get a stubborn one or two that continue to get caught over and over. Before you release them, give them a hosing down in the trap. Its harmless, but seems to reinforce at a deeper level that the box with treats is really an evil place...

I use the old eggs from the incubator, all the way in the back, also break a few, for them to lick up, more time in the trap.

Most baits will work, only catch coons, possum, and skunks with eggs.

Cat food, or any fish good odd you will trap cats. Thats ok if you need to get rid of cats. But with that cat in the trap, you are not going to catch a coon that night.

Yes kill any coons trapped, here in Ohio its the law. kill them or release on your land.

We use horse "sweet feed" to trap raccoons (also works for possums, which will kill your chickens just as fast as a raccoon will.) That avoids having an abashed looking barn cat in the trap the next morning.
