I have a hen who is bald on her back and butt. We have a 3 roosters but we have a about 8 young ones coming up. What can I do to help this hen out? I washed her up and there was a string on her leg I cut off. Please help me!

Thanks James

PS: She hasn't moved from the deck since I put her back outside in the back yard. She just wants to sleep it looks like.

Am I right that you have one hen and 3 roosters?
It should be about 10 hens to one rooster.
If that's the case she's been overbred. She looks rough. I would not put her back with them until she's completely recovered and you get about 20 more hens or remove 2 of the roosters and get at least 5 more hens.

When one of our hens had been "over used" by the roosters (despite us having more than enough hens for just two boys) and was bald to that extent she stopped eating and would stay in the coup all day. So we brought her inside and kept her away from the other birds. It took a while but she started eating and grew her feathers in. We also got rid of all of our roosters before we put her back out and now she's going great and tormenting our new bantam roosters :)

Basically the best thing to do would be remove the roosters (all of them) or take her into a sheltered area away from the others for a while so she can grow her feathers back in.

Also you really should get rid of two of the roosters, or get many more hens.
