bald back

my chicken has a bald back with black bumps where her feathers are tryin to grow. i am new to the chicken raising deal and need some advise. help.

Looks like feather picking but more information would help. How many chickens in how much space? What are they fed? Have you checked for lice/mites?

we have 7 chickens in a HUGE coop, so space is not the issue. none of the other girls have this. i am confused about what to do.

Did you figure out what was going on? I just found one of my hens has the same baldness.

no i never did figure it out. but her feathers slowly started grow in.

If you have a rooster he may be favouring her. Sometimes when they mate the roosters pull out some of the feather on the hens back.

I have Light Sussex also; my Good Looking Guy (and he is SO fine) has a hen he prefers; she looked like your picture until I Blu Kote-ed her - twice now!

Hen aprons also help the feathers grow back

I'm stumped as to why my hens feathers are missing - same exact pattern as Kooken's hen. I have 4 hens and this hen actually is a bully to another hen, but I've never seen anyone bully her. I wasn't able to let them roam outside of their coop for a few days and on Friday when they were able to I noticed her tail looked funny and I checked it out. I was thinking I was going to find a big pile of leaves inside the coop but I didn't. I looked for bugs/mites and didn't see anything. Any one have any suggestions for me? I was thinking of secluding her for a few days?

Maybe she was bleeding?Other hens are attracted to blood so maybe they are pecking her?How high is she in the pecking order?If she is pretty low then the other hens could be doing this to her.
