HELP!!! Today I went into my coop and watched my Hen walk in front of me and her butt was bare, naked, no feathers, it was like a circle. She will be a year in May! She started laying at 6 months and lays everyday. Maybe one day she didn't. Is she okay?? Should I do something? Should I be worried? This is first year with chickens and let me tell u this northern Illinois weather is a pain.

Thank you!! I always come on and read the forums but never joined! Finally did!!

Sounds normal to me as that is all a part of a chicken's life

Have you noticed others pecking at her? Just in case you could put BluKote on to camoflauge it, With this crummy weather I imagine your birds are cooped up a lot. When chickens are crowded/bored they start feather picking.

I agree with Drumstick Diva...bald butts are usually from others pecking the feathers out. So you will need some Blu-kote to spray on the skin to keep any infection from developing and to keep others from seeing her skin and wanting to peck at it. Also, give your chickens more room. This sort of thing happens when birds are cramped in, or bored. Get them out to free range, give them things to do in the coop if they are cooped up....hanging cabbages, seed pecking blocks, large cut veggies. Something to do other than pick on each other.

Good luck with your flock and enjoy BYC!
