Hey my helpful chicken community!
I purchased a hen from a lady some months ago. When I got her she was missing some tail feather, but I was assured these would grow back. Unfortunately in my flock she has fallen to the bottom of the pecking order. Every time she gets new feathers in the other girls pluck them out! Ive given her some time but it doesnt seem to be improving, in fact I think its getting worse. I really dont want to have to rehome her, but I cant let her suffer Does anyone have any tips on getting her feathers to grow in safely? Thank you all!

Recently I wrote an article on the subject of bullying and how to rehabilitate a victim. https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/chicken-bully-chicken-victim-a-two-sided-issue.73923/

Another article I wrote is on the subject of introducing a single hen to an existing flock. https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/introducing-a-single-hen-to-an-existing-flock.71997/

You will probably find some useful information and ideas in both articles in dealing with this problem in your own flock. The psychology of chicken victims is very underappreciated. There are ways to prevent a new chicken from being turned into a permanent victim and there is a method to restore self confidence to a victim so she will stop seeing herself as a victim. This causes the flock to quit viewing her as a victim, and the result is a more peaceful flock.
