Bald Eagle Predation

In southeast the natives do it all the time, they are the ones that showed us how to haze the eagles so they would not get the little doggies and kittyies. And sold them to us.

It is STILL illegal to harass birds of prey, especially bald eagles in ALL of the US. Be careful.

you could always feed the eagles get some feeder mice and rats, you can raise them for almost nothing a couple hands full of cat food and some chicken feed

We also have bald eagle issues... We had a juvenile kill our bantam frizzle rooster, our black sexlink, and a mutt. We had a covered run, the eagle punched a hole in the deer netting and caught 2 chickens. He tried to kill our frizzle hen but the rooster attacked it and it got him instead.

I agree with Frostbite. I haven't seen bottle rockets being used against eagles, or even heard of it, around here.

Anyway, birds of prey have keen eyesight, this we all know already. What you may not know is that fishing line confuses them. The monofilamint(sp) reflects so many colors of light it messes with their depth perception. I have a friend that has used a number of things...

1. streamers of fishing line hanging in the doorways of the coops.
2. radios playing outside during the day (her neighbors were a few hundred feet away and weren't bothered by her musical tastes)
3. Imprinted her goslings on her dog. She could teach the dog to go inside on command and the goslings followed.

I have a LGD and a 12 year boy who cannot sit still. We have eagles around but so far, our only loss is to a raven. I assume the cds would work too. I've never seen it done around here, but that doesn't mean it won't work.

Have you heard of any techniques in your area (besides the covered runs) that might help? I'm all ears.....
