BALD EAGLES NESTING ON MY PROPERTY

It seemed like the eagles have been vocalizing more than usual the past couple of days. But maybe I have just heard them more because my front window was open. It makes me wonder if the third eagle has been hanging around again. Yesterday I saw two eagles flying high above the nest while one parent was on the nest calling. I could not tell for sure it was the other parent chasing a third eagle away or if it was two other eagles flying over to look at the nest. I also saw what might have been two turkey vultures flying even higher up when alerted by calling from the nest.

Two days ago I got a photo of two eagles on the far roosting tree. I managed to get their faces in focus despite some branches in the way.

I also took a photo of the nest when I could see a white head above the edge. However the camera focused on the branches in the foreground rather than the eagle. Once the leaves grow in on the surrounding trees, it will be even more difficult to see the nest. The eagle parents are probably looking forward to being more obscured by leaves so there won't be so many gawkers, both bird and human. Well, I'm the only human who is spending much time gawking at them.

I wish I could get even more good photos of the eagles, but unless I am lucky, they are pretty far away, and I have at least a partially obscured view. But I do have a video update. When I opened the window this morning I saw an eagle flying above the nest with alarm calls pealing out from the nest. By the time I got out with my ipad the mate had chased the intruder to a tree some distance away, but the parent on the nest was still displeased and calling out.

Once again the audio is better than the video.

Well, I don't have any significant updates on the eagles here. I hear them occasionally and every now and then I will see a flash of their wings through the dense tree canopy. This is the first time I have felt wistful about the trees growing leaves in the spring, because I can't watch the eagles as closely. I can report that the eagles do not like the sound of the leaf blower. I used it for several minutes, and when I finally turned it off they were calling out. A few minutes later they quieted down, and I switched to using the rake.

I get my eagle fix by checking out the updates on Decorah Eagle nest camera: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Raptor-Resource-Project/103786266324668 Here is a link to some fantastic photos of that eagle family: http://s1248.photobucket.com/user/S...h Eagles/5-16-15 Decorah Eagles?sort=6&page=1 The photographer was able to get great photos of them on the nest because there is a vantage point of the tree from a bit higher elevation, and she probably has a great telephoto lens.
