We have a chicken which is approx 18months old. There is a small bald patch on the top of its back towards the tale. On closer examination there is a protrusion of skin which looks inflamed and is tender.

Any advice before I call the vets?

Thank You

Mark

Do not worry, this is the preen gland where the chickens extract some oil rubbing their face and head over it, to then continue spreading the oil allover their feathers.

Ah, good to know. Thank you for your help. Should we do anything about the bald area?
