Balding on front of neck under chin

My Black Sexlink also has that pattern of baldness. She is not a submissive hen and I have no roosters. Interesting how many have it but how few solid answers we have. I will try some no peck to see if that helps. Thanks!

What do you use as "no peck"?

My EE had the problem in Jan, grew back the muff & cheeks in Feb, then 4 weeks ago, came out bald again one morning. It's frustrating because she's otherwise so pretty. I think one of our hens has "muff envy." My EE is one of the top hens, but not the alpha. She is a fav of our roos, but that usually means bald on the top of the head, her back, & sides.

I eventually figured out it was two hens pecking at her, had to rehome them, now her feathers are doing great. So strange since they were always such a close group of three, by oh well.

This is what I use. It's purple and smells nice but they don't like.

Although I never saw any mites I now know that the balding neck is a symptom of Depluming mites. Here is a pic of my poor Raven's neck and bottom. Going to have a busy weekend trying to get control of the parasites around here. :hit

I am going through this exact situation right now. I have three chickens and all three of them have baldness on their necks. I also have varying degrees of baldness on their bellies. I don't see any strong indication of mites, but this is all new to me. I know they do have scaly leg mites that I have been treating for several weeks. Did you get this to clear up? If so, what did you use?

My beauties have poultry lice. I guess they've had them for a while, I just was ignorant about it. In fact yesterday I just realized that we still have them. One of my pullet girls was literally crawling with the wretched things.I have treated them with Ivermectin thinking it would kill all parasites but just found out earlier this week that it only takes care of the mites. So I had been spraying down roosts and nesting boxes with Permecthrin made from concentrate and my vet said to use it for lice. You can dilute it down and spray it on them. I made a mistake and mixed it too strong and had to rinse off 5 of my girls (I have 27) in a tub I use for them if I need to bathe them for any chickeny purpose. I filled the tub with water added some of the too strong mix and proceeded to dip all the rest of my flock. Yuck-o! Floating dead lice! So it works and then I did the nests and now I will have to do it all again in 14 days. My poor girls. I feel awful about it. My guess is that's what you're facing. I hope I'm wrong. Good luck.
